Description:
Overall, the intern will be introduced to IP and the IP group, and then learn what an IP group does and how it functions within a biotech company. The intern will learn about the different types of IP, focusing on patents for the majority of the internship.

The intern will spend up to 1 week working with the administrative staff learning about and assisting in patent/trademark administration, and get some exposure to trademarks.

The intern will work 4-5 weeks with the biotech patent attorney learning about and working on various aspects of patent preparation and prosecution, including, e.g., drafting applications, interviewing scientists, searching for prior art, learning about the legal requirements for patentability of inventions, reviewing office actions, drafting responses to office actions, drafting declarations, etc.

The intern will work 1-2 weeks with the IP attorneys working on researching a legal issue and then drafting a memo.

The intern will work 2 weeks with the chemical patent attorney on various aspects of small molecule patents/prosecution, gaining an appreciation of the differences between patenting biologics and small molecule drugs.

The intern will work 1 week with the VP to gain an appreciation as to how IP, patents in particular, fit into the company?s overall business strategy.

Requirements:
- Candidate must display a strong interest in Patent Law
- Education ? must a bachelor?s degree in a science discipline and be attending law school.
- Technical skills ? strong writing ability, and able to quickly grasp and apply new concepts.
